The Insufficient Homosexual Stories from a man who fails to meet media expectations of what it means to be gay: |
09/08/2005 CosasWrote this couple weeks ago and never put it up, because it seemed too much of a bother to do so, although I did put up some of the Getty pics: -I went to the Getty with my sister last Friday, my first time seeing the new campus since its been well over a decade since Ive gone. We walked through the gardens, took a bunch of photos, saw the Rembrandt exhibition, saw other exhibitions, books constructed as modern art, work by famous photographers whos names escape me at the moment, parts of the permanent collection, got tired then left. On the tram ride up, a young girl, roughly middle school aged, kept using real as an adjective meaning cool, making me wonder if this was some sort of reaction to her generation growing up with so many virtual options that reality was now neat, or if she was just a strange kid. On the tram ride down an older gray haired mid-50s father explained the working of the tram to his two young sons, while the rest of us stared at the slow moving freeway below us, snarled with traffic despite official rush hour not starting for a while yet. While there we passed conversations in Spanish, French, Italian, German, and even in English. It was a warm day, so we worked our way through the gardens before it got too hot and I initially felt a little embarrassed by some of the more arty shots I was going for. The embarrassment stopped when I later saw folks working professional cameras with huge freaking lenss taking super focused shots of tiny sections of rock. -John and I are turning in forms to officially become domestic partners. It was muy romantic. His mother came up to have lunch with us and help us choose a new vacuum cleaner, and on the way we stopped at a shipping/copy/notary store to have the paperwork notarized. Once everythings in place Ill be able to get onto Johns insurance, and will get a little extra money from my employer (whatever part of our health insurance allowance we dont use, we get as pay). Unlike a married couple theres still a penalty though, in that the money will be taxed, but even with the drawbacks, it will be a bit of an improvement as his insurance is a heck of a lot better than mine. -Friday night we had dinner with some friends at a loud wanna-be trendy Japanese restaurant in Long Beach before heading out to another friend of ours perform at a bar. Some cable station (Im not quite clear on which) was taping her for something (also not clear on the why), and everyone in the audience was asked to surround the stage to make it seem that there were a lot more people there as she sang about being a redneck dykeand yes, it was an altered version of another certain song. 2000-2007 |
