The Insufficient Homosexual

Stories from a man who fails to meet media expectations of what it means to be gay:
white, frivolous, over sexed yet sexless, shrill, single, stylish, a clown, unimportant, et al.

My porn is better than your porn

Here are some assorted random bits that I am feeling too lazy to try to fit together:

Lunch with Kristen Saturday (01/19/02)
Kristen and I had dinner at an Italian place (spinach gnocchi with a goat cheese I forget the name of), then did some wandering around Little Tokyo. We had our usual odd conversation that evening, covering such topics as:

-crepes are good.

-the fact that the little pieces of pink stuff you sometimes find in sushi rolls is ground up cooked cod which has been dyed pink.

-that there is a mild controversy/disagreement between two different factions of the American anime fan community. It turns out that there are some female fans of the Yaoi (boy/boy romance) genre who disapprove of the Yuri (girl/girl romance) genre on sort of watered down feminist grounds. That is, that pornography is degrading to women and that the more explicit Yuri stories are in fact pornography.

However, some of these people find no problem with the more explicit Yaoi stories, since only men are involved and the primary audience for these stories are women. In other words, my porn is better than your porn. Despite my frivolous attitude, its actually interesting. Sort of.

A bit about the weather and the garden
Its the middle of winter. The weather has been sort of cold, but not as cold as normal. It has also been sort of rainy, but not as rainy as normal. Its the middle of winter, but there is the feel of spring in the air. The paperwhites have all finished blooming and the daffodils look like they are about to flower. Most of the deciduous trees in the yard has new growth and the wild parrots are back from where ever it is they went to a couple months back. Despite the calendar, it doesnt really feel like the middle of January.

Some online diarists ate a meal and walked on the beach Sunday (01/20/02)
The reason for the meal and exertion, was that Drew (of Ambivalent Attitudes) was in Los Angeles for a longish layover. The jet setter boy should be somewhere in Australia by now. Cool for Drew.

Anyway, Drew, Charles (of Geek tragedies), and I ate at the El Cholo in Santa Monica and hung out for a little bit. Charles wrote a interesting account of the day and he included pictures (theres one of me, if any of you were curious).

It was nice to met Charles and the three of us talked for a while. Kind of. There was some generic talk about shaving, were I didnt mention that I couldnt grow a full beard if my life depended on it. There also a mention of a cute employee at the restaurant, were I didnt mention that I thought that the bartender was fairly attractive.

I wasnt silent the entire evening and I did take part in the conversation, but unfortunately, I was somewhat tired and wasnt at my best/most outgoing. Im not sure if they noticed, but I was yawning. A lot.

I was tired, and a little distracted. On the other side of the room, there were some women drinking beers while watching the football game. They were sporty looking. They had generic dyke haircut number two, and since they set off my gaydar big time, I assumed that they were in fact lesbians. Im thinking that the two men who started chatting them up did not think they were. This happened right before we left the restaurant, so I have no idea if the men were successful in picking them up or not.

A brief medical bit
My doctor let me know about some studies involving 13C (Indole-3-Carbinol) being used to successfully treat respiratory papillomatosis. So I have been on a hunt to find the stuff.

Unfortunately, it hasnt been a very successful hunt. I guess I could always order some online, but my preference would be to actually see it/ hold it/ read it before I decide if I am going to try it.

Anyone have a suggestion of where I might find some in the real world?

Queerasfolkathon
John and I have been watching the first season dvds. We havent made it that far yet and Ill spare you my thoughts on a television series that most people have already seen.

Except for this one. The accountant guy who didnt die from the drug overdose, whos name I am not remembering, is at thirty-three, the over the hill old man of the group. Im older than he is, so what does that make me? Um, No need to answer that :-P

more later,

nico
