The Insufficient Homosexual

Stories from a man who fails to meet media expectations of what it means to be gay:
white, frivolous, over sexed yet sexless, shrill, single, stylish, a clown, unimportant, et al.

boy stories

one:
Last winter, a woman told all her co-workers how proud she was of her 9 year old son, because one of the things he wanted for Christmas was a steamer. After elaborating that he did not want a fancy vacuum but instead a kitchen appliance, she would then need to further elaborate that he liked steamed milk when he made his hot chocolate. This year, the mom has admitted to some slight concern that her ten year old is now a better cook than she is.

two:
Maxs dad insisted that his sons had to have crew cuts which possibly explains why when dad wasnt around, 4 year old Max would sometimes walk around with a towel wrapped around his head to have princess hair.

three:
Another woman shared with her friends at work that she was no longer allowed to buy any clothes for her son (6?) without him being present, because she couldnt be trusted to not buy ugly clothes.

four:
When Bill was 5 he went to a high school football game with his grandparents and some uncles. During the game, he complimented an uncle on his choice of shirt, because it matched the color of his eyes. The next year, his with grandmothers help, he rearranged the furniture in her den. When he was finished bossing her around, she was surprised that the room looked and flowed better.

five:
Tims mom found some tiger beat type magazines hidden under her 9 years old sons bed. She decided to not ask him about them. Since he goes to an all boy catholic school, he was obviously reading them to find out more about girls (and presumably not to look at pictures of teenboy heartthrobs).

six:
After being told that it wasnt normal behavior for a young boy (roughly 6 or 7), a woman told her co-workers that she liked that her son would rather spend a Saturday afternoon with her sitting on the couch watching old black and white movies on TV, then playing ball with his dad.

seven:
In retaliation for being told by his parents not to play with his sisters Barbie, 5-year-old Todd let the family dog play with it.

eight:
A mother at a gymboree thing confided with some of her friends that she and her husband had been arguing about their child, a 10-year-old boy who still needed to be tucked into bed every night. She thought that it wasnt a big deal, and that he would grow out of it on his own time, while the dad thought that they were coddling the boy.

nine:
Eight year old Tommy runs out of the living room mortified every time his mom shows guests pictures of him as a toddler wearing an oversized dress (it seems his older sister had fun one day).

ten:
During a lunch hour spent relating different stories about their kids, a woman told her friends that now that he was getting into his teenage years, her younger son was driving her crazy. When she told her two boys, thirteen and twelve, that they would not be allowed to date girls until they were eighteen, the younger son got angry at how restrictive she was, while the older boy had no problems with this and agreed that girls would interfere with his studies. She wished they both had his attitude.
